Fifth Great Awakening

History teaches that there have been four Great Awakenings, or spiritual revivals, since the 1700s. I believe we’re standing on the precipice of another revival — or else a revolution "that will plunge human society and civilization into chaos and utter confusion," to quote pastor and evangelist R. A. Torrey. A Fifth Great Awakening can happen. And this has been our collective prayer for some time. I want to ask you as a believer in Christ to pray with me for a God-sent revival across our country and around the world. R. A. Torrey taught that revivals always begin with prayer and that every prayer of power requires four vital characteristics: Our prayers must be passionate. The time has passed for believers to waffle in our convictions. The only safe space is all in for Christ. Our prayers must be specific. Our prayers must apply Biblical truth, crying out for God’s intervention in specific ways in our culture. Our prayers must be continual. Like the persistent widow in Luke 18, you and I must "always pray and never give up" (v. 1). Our prayers must be collective. One of my prayers is that Christians know they’re not alone. We stand together in our love for God and heart for his kingdom. Our prayers must reflect the same unity. Prayers like this move the heart of God, and they shatter enemy strongholds. Please pray with me in crying out to God for a spiritual awakening in our culture. If we continue the path we're on, we will arrive at our own destruction.
