Everyone longs to have a sense of purpose. Those who don't have it can be void of a realistic goal. Those who do have it can be driven to achieve it. Neither extreme is advantageous in the long run from a spiritual perspective.
Certainly, to have and to attain viable goals can lead to worldly advantage, but sometimes worldly advantage can be to the detriment of the one who gains it.
While the person who has no significant goal to motivate him to excel temporally and is perhaps unmotivated to seek the KINGDOM'S purposes either, the person who is driven to achieve worldly things almost certainly lacks the ability to see the value in laying aside the temporal in order to embrace the spiritual.
Balance is a
requisite for everyone, for the person who is able to recognize the
necessity of providing the material needs of his family and himself will
certainly strive for them but not be possessed by a compulsion to have
the best of them.
When believers find the purpose for which GOD gave them life, they have indeed arrived at one of life's most important days. They will on that day, place their time, their talent, their focus, their life at the feet of JESUS and allow HIM to guide their every step toward "doing all things through CHRIST who strengthens me."
