Borders

Separating Children
The controversial policy of separating illegal alien children from their parents at the border has a lot of people speaking out in defense of the illegals. Although our law is very clear in the matter, those enforcing the law are bearing the ire of those who think it is immoral to prevent illegal entry into our country.
Perhaps a solution to the problem lies in defining who should be responsible for these illegals and their children once they enter our borders.
Those who feel they should be permitted to stay should sign a voucher that affirms their willingness to accept financial responsibility for them--willingness to pay for their housing and clothing and education and costs of incarceration (which are high among the illegal population.)
Those who are unwilling to assume such responsibility should not be forced to do so.
Some feel strongly that monies spent on illegals should be extended to our military, to those who have sacrificed for our country rather than on those who enter our country illegally, expecting a hand-out.
Separating children from their parents is not something anyone wants to do; separating American tax payers from their hard-earned money for the sake of those who have no right to be here is something many are unwilling to continue to do.
The ultimate question that must be answered is, "Are we a nation of borders and laws or are we not?" If we are not, we are virtually the only nation in the world that does not define itself by its borders, its laws, its language, its citizens.
If we are a nation of borders and laws, then it is way past time that those borders and laws should be respected--by citizens and non-citizens alike--and our borders should be defended and our laws should be enforced.
