Tennessee Gov. Receives Praise and Backlash for Declaring Day of Prayer, Humility, and Fasting - CBN News

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee recently issued a proclamation declaring [Thursday] Oct. 10 as a voluntary "Day of Prayer, Humility, and Fasting."

"We know that prayer accomplishes much," he said. "Prayer strengthens our families and it strengthens our communities. It strengthens our relationship with our neighbors. It strengthens our relationship with God himself."

He continued, "So, because of that, we have decided to proclaim an official day of prayer and fasting for our state on Oct. 10 this year. On that day, Maria and I will take the day and offer prayers of healing. Prayers for forgiveness. Prayers of thanksgiving. And prayers of hope for our state and for the 6.7 million who call Tennessee home. We invite all Tennesseans to join with us. In their homes. In their communities. In their places of worship, to fast and to pray for God's favor and blessing on the people of Tennessee."

* The Governor of Tennessee has declared this for his state but if you live elsewhere and desire to participate, perhaps you will consider fasting a meal or two along with your brothers and sisters in Tennessee.

Our nation needs a revival of faith in JESUS and we who believe individually need a revival of our sense of devotion to the LORD and of the obligation we have to employ the power HE has given to us toward the furtherance of HIS KINGDOM'S purposes in our land and in the world.

Romans 8:11 says, "THE SAME POWER THAT RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD LIVES IN YOU." May we use that power to lift up the name of JESUS and to see HIS Kingdom furthered.

May we claim the promise of II Chronicles 7:14 as we repent of our sin and become more fully alive to the purposes of our LORD and KING:

"IF MY PEOPLE, WHO ARE CALLED BY MY NAME, WILL HUMBLE THEMSELVES AND PRAY AND SEEK MY FACE AND TURN FROM THEIR WICKED WAYS, THEN WILL I HEAR FROM HEAVEN AND FORGIVE THEIR SINS AND HEAL THEIR LAND."
