Quotes from John F. Kennedy

As Thanksgiving approaches, be mindful of wise words that were spoken by wise men who came before us:

"The Pilgrims, after a year of hardship and peril, humbly and reverently set aside a special day upon which to give thanks to God ... I ask the head of each family to recount to his children the story of the first New England Thanksgiving, thus to impress upon future generations the heritage of this nation born in toil, in danger, in purpose, and in the conviction that right and justice and freedom can through man's efforts persevere and come to fruition with the blessing of God."
                                                           President John F. Kennedy

"We in this country, in this generation, are - by destiny rather than choice - the watchmen on the walls of world freedom.  We ask, therefore, that we may be worthy of our power and responsibility, that we may exercise our strength with wisdom and restraint, and that we may achieve in our time and for all time the ancient vision of peace on earth, goodwill toward men ...That must always be our goal - and the  righteousness of our cause must always underlie our strength.   For as was written long ago, 'Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.'"
                                 *President John F. Kenney

*President Kennedy did not have the opportunity to speak the second quote.  He was prepared to say these words in Dallas and he was shot before he could deliver them.
