Out of the Blue

It's been a long dry spell around here, but the other day, out of the clear blue sky, a strange event occurred.

Not a storm; not a drop of rain. Just a thunderclap and a single bolt of lightening. Our antenna and our air conditioner were fried.

I must admit that my initial response was negative...GOD'S hedge of protection must have been down. Our guardian angel must have been napping. These fluky things are reserved for faithless people, aren't they?

It's easy to indulge such thoughts when the primary source of evening entertainment is gone and we're sweltering in the scorching 90 + degree heat we've been experiencing daily throughout most of the summer.

But upon deeper reflection, a different conclusion has been discovered.

The bolt didn't strike us; that random, out of the blue jolt from a virtually cloudless sky could just as easily found us as its target.

Apparently, our angel deflected it to something that could be repaired rather than allowing it to expedite us immediately to our eternal reward.

With that realization in mind, we can only ask our gracious HEAVENLY FATHER to reveal to us the purpose for which HE has spared us, to show us how we can better serve HIM with the time HE has so graciously allowed us to have.

May each of us be mindful that each breath we draw is a gift from our HOLY GOD, and may we resolve to use the precious treasure of life that HE has entrusted to us to the glory of THE HOLY NAME OF JESUS.
