Blessings of Liberty

Suggested Scriptural references ...

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. Psalm 33:12

The one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1:25

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17

Suggested prayers ...

Thank You, Father, for guiding our founders in securing the blessings of liberty for us. We ask You to guide us in reclaiming those blessings for ourselves and for those who come behind us.

We note O God, that our founders defined liberty as a blessing. On behalf of our nation, and all those who have gone before us, please grant us Your wisdom as we attempt to re-secure the blessings of liberty that were so hard won on our behalf.

Creator God, thank You for Your great gift of free will. Thank You also for clearly showing us that freedom and fulfillment are found within the boundaries of Your laws. We pray, O God, against the tendency in our culture to re-define freedom as freedom from boundaries of any kind. We are in moral, relational and economic chaos, Lord, and we ask You to help us find our way back to the liberty that only comes from walking with You - as a people, as a culture and as a nation.

Where Your Spirit is, there is true liberty. Send Your Spirit, Lord. Permeate our broken and divided land with Your Spirit. Hear the cries of Your people, O God.

“For these inestimable blessings we cannot but be grateful to that Providence which watches over the destiny of nations... When we view the blessings with which our country has been favored, those which we now enjoy, and the means which we possess of handing them down unimpaired to our latest posterity, our attention is irresistibly drawn to the source from whence they flow. Let us then, unite in offering our most grateful acknowledgments for these blessings to the Divine Author of All Good.” President James Monroe
