I for One

I for One by Anonymous
Many people advocate the concept of open borders. This disregards the fact that virtually no other people pose the idea as an option. Most other nations are quite stringent about who may enter and who may become legal citizens of their country.
For example, in Saudi Arabia, no one would be granted citizenship who was not muslim. Certainly work visas are granted to muslims and non-muslims alike, but tight controls are maintained over who may apply for citizenship. And there is certainly no such thing as 'birthright citizenship'.
European nations that have been quite welcoming to the influx of muslims have had a change of heart due to the rise in criminal activity upon the arrival of the hordes who have no regard for European law or for the European citizens who welcomed them. Women have felt the brunt of the disdain of the islamists who have recently entered their borders.
Perhaps all that seems too far away to be of concern to the advocates of open borders. I wonder if posing the question on a more personal level would alter their thinking...Would those who feel the United States should offer asylum to thousands of unvetted illegal aliens throw open the doors of their own homes to anyone who coveted the goods they've accumulated through the years of their hard work?
Would those who feel the resources of U.S. citizens should be gladly shared with illegal aliens who have contributed nothing to those resources give unquestioningly of the inheritance they have set aside to bequeath to their own children? Do they think giving away their children's inheritance from their parents is worse than squandering their children's national birthright?
Minds are not easily changed. Beliefs are not readily converted from one position to another, but I for one am not ready to welcome intruders -- invaders -- into my country any more than I am ready to welcome thieves into my home.
