The Ravages Of Time

June 14

As a man grows older, he begins to view himself and his physical prowess differently. While he once considered himself to be virtually invincible, he now realizes that he, as every other living, breathing creature, is subject to the ravages of time—of age. Where he once defied anything to un-do him, he now realizes that encroaching old age will.

The strength of his back, the might of his arm, as well as the acuity of his mind are evidencing signs of waning. Even men who have performed amazing feats of athleticism are no longer able to maintain the regimen that once sustained them in virtually perfect physical form.

But the believer who observes these same evidences of debilitation can view them and the mortality they foretell without dread. The one who has placed his complete trust in the living Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has no fear of death and no dread of what eternity holds. The person of faith knows Whose he is and he knows where he’s going.

The one who knows Jesus may say with the same assurance with which wrote the psalmist, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my life and my portion forever,” Psalm 73:26. Oh, what confidence is had by the person who has placed his life at Jesus’ feet! Time holds no fear for him; eternity holds no dread!
