No Turning Back

There is an old hymn that says, "I have decided to follow Jesus...no turning back, no turning back." This corresponds with His admonition that once we have put our hand to the plow we must not stop or turn back.

The world we live in is filled with people who are weary of the journey. There are numerous things that have brought them to this point, not the least of which are economic setbacks, physical challenges, professional limitations, political frustrations.

It is difficult to go forward when it seems there is no possibility of making progress. People who work hard but can't seem to get their head above water financially lose hope in the pursuit of a nest egg and resign themselves to a lifetime of laboring to simply make ends meet.

People who battle chronic pain are disheartened. They are reluctant to try one more medication, one more procedure to gain relief from continual suffering so they resign themselves to living with discomfort.

The work-a-day grind can sift those who labor into fine powder that is easily scattered impotent to the wind. Opportunities lost, recognition not received, promotions unattained, plunge them into a sense of resignation to unfulfillment.

Watching a nation which was once a crowning jewel among the treasures of the world delve into a quagmire of political and economic upheaval disheartens the most stalwart patriots. The sin that has marred the legacy that will be left to the children of the land makes concerned parents cringe at the wantonness their offspring will face.

But, there's no turning back. As Moses left Egypt and set his eyes upon the Promised Land, so must believers today resolve that they shall not be turned back from their hope! They shall not be dissuaded from the promises they know are true. They will not lose faith in the Christ who died, not only to set them free from sin but to "give them all things."
