Peace

"Men will be crying peace and safety when there is no peace." I Thessalonians 5:3
Everyone wants peace.

Everyone hopes the people in power will be able to lay aside their egos and their desire for control long enough to effect a peace that will benefit everyone.

Everyone prays for peace.

But through the long history of man, peace has eluded him. As the LORD foretold, there are countless "wars and rumors of war." Matthew 24:6 We see the earth's 'hot spots' growing in number rather than diminishing.

Yet our hearts long for peace. And, though the world may be unable to achieve the goal of harmony among men, each individual can gain "that peace that passes understanding, to keep his heart and his mind in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

Each of us may have the peace of the prisoner in the Bastille, awaiting execution who said:

I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining.
I believe in love, even when I do not feel it.
I believe in God, even when He is silent.

Each of us may say with Job in the midst of his fiery trial, "Though HE slay me, yet will I trust HIM." Job 13:15

At this season of THANKSGIVING, may we lift our voices to the HOLY ONE in gratitude for the salvation package HE has given to us, which includes healing for our bodies, security for our eternal souls, and "peace that passes understanding" Philippians 4:7 for our troubled minds in an age fraught with uncertainty.
