The right to choose goes back a lot further than 1973.
In Joshua 24:15, the LORD extended this amazing right to HIS people and HE is still offering it to the world today.
Husbands / Fathers, to you HE extends the privilege of being the prophet and priest over your family. Biblically, it is the prophet who brings the message of the HOLY ONE to his family. It behooves you, husbands and fathers, to know the WORD of GOD and to impart it to your family.
It behooves you, husbands
and fathers, to instruct the lives entrusted to you in truth--truth that
you cannot know apart from your own study of HIS WORD or apart from
your own relationship with the ONE who is TRUTH.
Our LORD has also extended to you, husbands and fathers, the privilege of being the priest over your home. It is the prerogative of the priest to carry the needs of those under his protection and love before the Throne of Mercy and Grace.
It behooves you to feel the heart of your wife and to pray away her burdens. It behooves you to wrap her fully in your love and to gird her round about with the security that comes with trust.
It behooves you to cherish your children as the gifts they are and to pray fervently for their spiritual awakening and their firm anchoring in faith.
Wives / Mothers, it is your great privilege to support your husband through his endeavors. To encourage him to be all GOD has called him to be and to lift him in prayer before the LORD, recognizing that all the forces of hell are determined to undo him, for if he is undone, not only will he fail to live up to the high estate to which he is called, but so will you and your family be robbed of the blessing he is tasked to be to you.
Wives / Mothers, it is given to you to be the hand that rocks the cradle and thereby rules the world. What you instruct the children at your knee will become the motivation of the hearts of the leaders of tomorrow. If you have lived CHRIST before them, if you have employed HIS tenets of truth and love and forgiveness and faith within your children, they will build their lives upon these tenets and the future will be secure in their hands.
Children, it has been given to you to choose between the "pleasures of sin for a season," Hebrews 11:25, and life, as the WORD sets before you, "I set before you life and death, choose life." Deuteronomy 30:15
Children, you must understand that in choosing Christ, you will choose life and honor for time and eternity. In choosing sin in any of its guises, you will choose death.
