Taxes

April 15 is traditionally 'tax day,' the day when all ones taxes are ultimately due for the year. Some people pay them earlier, and some people defer their payment, but everyone must hand over to the government a significant portion of their income to pay their taxes.

On average, a taxpayer in this country pays one third of the remuneration he earns for the work he does to the government. This far exceeds what the founders of this nation would have tolerated...if you doubt that assertion, re-read the account of the Boston Tea Party.

Are taxes a 'necessary evil'?

Should citizens feel privileged to support their government?

The answer to these questions may be, "Yes," on the part of most who feel blessed to live in this land of great freedom and opportunity, but even the most grateful and supportive American must be ever-vigilant to guard those freedoms and to preserve those opportunities.

An ever growing and encroaching government has always been recognized as a potential threat to all Americans hold dear. If this nation is to be preserved as a bastion of hope for its people, its people must be relentless in holding its leadership accountable to the principles on which it is established.
