Celebrating Baal

According to the New York Times, this month, in both Time Square and London’s Trafalgar Square, huge 50-foot tall structures known as the “Arches of the Temple of Baal” will begin to be erected. “With future plans to construct over 1000 such versions at different sites around the globe,” the plans are transforming the world’s city centers, into celebrations of Baal worship.

In the Old Testament, the worship of Baal was established in Babylon during the famous times of tower of Babel. The Bible says that God detested the child sacrifice and sexual worship that took place at these altars. For example, Jeremiah 19:4-6 says:

“Because they have forsaken Me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they, their fathers, nor the kings of Judah have known, and have filled this place with the blood of the innocent, and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into My mind—therefore, surely the days are coming, says the Lord, when this place shall no more be called Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.”

Perhaps we should notice a problem when our society begins to celebrate things like abortion, sexual promiscuity, and immorality all mirroring that of ancient times.

As Michael T. Snyder, of Charisma News points out, “Many people regard America as modern day Babylon, and now we are going to have a monument that directly links us to ancient Babylon right in the heart of our most important city.”
