SEASONS
The El Nino Effect, which has kept the winter mild so far, seems to be over. For the first time this season, the wind is howling outside and snow flurries are swirling in the air before accumulating.
But we who believe know that Christ is Lord in all seasons.
We know the cold blasts of winter will chill us to the bone, that we
will wrap ourselves in our warmest garments and brace ourselves against
the relentless frost.
We know there will be optimistic springs in our experience that will afford us great hope for future success. We will see the buds of joys-to-come in every area of life.
We know that there will be warm summers in life when we will be bathed in the sunshine of His lavish provision. When we shall bask in the sun of refreshing delights as we drink the cool lemonade of successful accomplishments.
And in the autumn, we shall relax in the fading light of our best days, satisfied in knowing that we faced life at its most challenging times and overcame to revel in our successes.
In the spiritual realm, as in the physical, life poses its challenges. In the cold winter of our confusion or doubt or dilemma, we wrap ourselves in the truth of the Living Word who is CHRIST. We put on our "garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness" Isaiah 61:3 that would squelch our hope of spring.
But spring is the promise to the believer who knows he serves a GOD who "calls things that are not as though they were." Romans 4:17 Because HE IS LORD, HE CALLS SPRING IN THE DEEP OF WINTER AND THE CROCUS MUST BLOOM IN THE SNOW.
When summer arrives, the believer basks in the warmth of the ONE who has given him "all things." I Timothy 6:17 The bounty of the season of harvest is lavished on the person of faith and he shares his abundance with everyone around him.
In the autumn of a man's days, he is yet "strong in the LORD and in the power of HIS might." Ephesians 6:10 He knows that "the same power that raised JESUS from the dead dwells in him," Romans 8:11, and he goes forward to victory in the HOLY ONE who admonishes him to bring his sheaves with him.
In all life's seasons, may we who know HIM--whom to know is LIFE, John 17:3--rest confidently in His salvation that is full and free, in His Word that cannot fail, and in His promise of eternal life in the Realm of Glory.
