When I see a hummingbird, I think of my dear, precious Aunt Mary who kept a hummingbird feeder by her front porch so she could care for these beautiful little creatures and observe them.
But it wasn't only hummingbirds who came around her house. She was a loving and gentle woman who reached out to everyone whose life touched hers at the point of their need.
If the father in the family was laid off from work, she would supply groceries. If someone bore an emotional pain, she would supply a shoulder to cry on. If children needed a reminder about good behavior, she spoke to them gently about being the best they could be.
Because her niece
worked and had little time for house cleaning, that task was performed
by dear Aunt Mary who always left a cooked meal along with the spotless
house.
Aunt Mary's life is a warm, tender reminder that people who are insignificant in the eyes of the world can transform the lives of those who are privileged to know them.
Aunt Mary's life is an affirmation of hope in humankind, for anyone who allows his or her own life to be touched by the kindness of the SAVIOR will touch other lives with that same grace and mercy and love.
Thank you, Aunt Mary, for all you gave to me and for the inspiration you are to me to follow the example of the GOD WHO GIVES.
