The media and current leadership seem to be in collusion regarding an aspect of history that is quite significant.
One of the tenets of faith in Islam is that ultimately, there will be peace in the world, but it won't be peace based on the tolerance of various belief systems; it will be peace based on the complete submersion of every other belief system under Islam.
From the time Mohammad first went forth from obscurity to spread his
version of truth to the world around him, Islam has been a religion of
conquest.
Through entities like ISIS, we see Islam going forth through brutality and shear military type power. Through relocation of refugees into Europe and America we see cultural jihad being waged against the West, against the 'Christian world.'
The intent of Islam has never changed.
How free people respond to Islam and its goal will determine whether our progeny continue to live free or will be under the governance of an intolerant worldview that will demand their complete submission or require their death.
