Dead Broke

Hillary Clinton said that she and her husband, former president William Jefferson Clinton, were "dead broke" when they left the White House, taking with them some priceless treasures from the people's house. If that is true, their fortunes have changed quite dramatically in the intervening years.

But, if that is true, their spiritual fortune still appears to be at the point of being "dead broke." The vast wealth they have accumulated does not seem to satisfy Mrs. Clinton, for she continues to be driven by political ambition and an insatiable desire for achievement and power.

We should pray for her, that no matter what direction her political career takes she will turn her eyes toward JESUS, the ONE whose "unspeakable GIFT" has extended to her, as to every other individual in the world, the opportunity to possess incalculable spiritual treasure that transcends any sense of security afforded by monies or worldly wealth of any sort.

We should pray for this true treasure for ourselves, for each of us, although to perhaps a lesser degree, are like Mrs. Clinton--restless and dissatisfied with what we have--ever striving for something more to fill the void within ourselves.

We should pray for ourselves because we, like Mrs. Clinton, are gambling with the treasure of eternity in order to achieve the temporary gains of time.
