I
grew up in __________, ___________, in a neighborhood where everybody
knew each other and the kids played safely in the streets all the time.
This was during a time when everyone treated each other like family. We
went outside to play, we got dirty and we ate whatever our mom cooked
without complaining....We ate egg sandwiches, bologna sandwiches, fried
green tomatoes w/pickles, Spam sandwiches and ate Meatloaf and chicken
and dumplings .
We played on vacant lots. Built forts in the snow piles and played in tree houses. We caught crickets and grasshoppers. We collected empty coke bottles so we could go to the movies on Saturdays. We played Red Light-green light, Red Rover, football, basketball, dodge ball, kickball, hop scotch, hula hoops,..... shot marbles, we could take a walk in the woods and the brush and didn't have to worry about weirdos.

We rode our bicycles everywhere we went! To a friends house or to
school a mile away or even farther, we weren't AFRAID OF ANYTHING BUT
OUR ELDERS because we were taught RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND THEIR PROPERTY.
As children, we didn't talk if an adult were speaking. When it got dark we knew it was time to go home. Occasionally we stayed out later to catch lightning bugs.
We loved going to school, because we had loving caring teachers and we got to see all of our friends. We watched our mouths around our elders because we knew If we DISRESPECTED any grown up we would get a spanking!
Most of all we were taught about God and Jesus' love and His sacrifice for us; church was the center of our lives. We need to get back to those times because we're losing our children to a society with no respect for authority, no compassion for others and no knowledge of right and wrong. Our society has lot its regard for the God on whose precepts our nation was founded.
The name of Jesus is used as a cuss word--on TV and in the movies. We have denigrated the SAVIOR who died for us and we have not imparted a regard for HIM and HIS "unspeakable gift" to our children.
Re-post with where you grew up if you're proud that you came from a close knit community and will never forget where you came from!
