Jeremiah 29:11 is one of GOD'S precious jewels, tucked away in a book of Scripture that is infrequently read from or preached upon, but when it is discovered, the reader feels that a treasure trove has been open to him.
It is first of all comforting to know that the HOLY ONE knows the circumstances that are unfolding before HIS child, for it is anxiety about the unknown that man finds most disturbing. Though he cannot see the future himself, the believer takes consolation and rest in the knowledge that the LORD holds the future in the hollow of HIS loving hand.
Reading the plan the loving FATHER has for HIS child affords even more
peace, grants even more confidence, as the person of faith plods forward
into the unknown, for he is told that his harm is not part of the plan.
Rather, he is assured that GOD'S intent is to give him "a future and a hope."
Although the person of faith longs for the eternal promise of life everlasting and the role of being co-heir with CHRIST in HIS Realm of Glory, it is the nature of man to cling to the known, to desire length of days, to enjoy the temporal treasures he has accrued for as long as possible.
So the future and hope man desires to have is in the here and now.
Even the great Apostle Paul said, "For me to live is CHRIST and to die is gain,"
Although he longed to be forever with the LORD, he cherished the task the SAVIOR had set before him of testifying to HIS glory and chronicling HIS LIFE, DEATH, and RESURRECTION in the New Testament, the preponderance of which he penned while in a Roman dungeon.
Like Paul, believers today yearn to fulfill the great destiny that has been set before them. They long to fulfill the future and the hope that stirs within their bosom.
May each person who names the NAME that is above all names, have the opportunity to complete his earthly mission, to fulfill his eternal destiny, to see the future and the hope he has been promised unfold to the glory of the ONE at whose feet he has placed his life for time and eternity.
