Grief

If I were to say, "God, why me?" about the bad things, then I should have said, "God, why me?" about the good things that happened in my life. - Arthur Ashe

Grief. The very word has a sound of sorrow. Grief is something every living person has borne in life or will bear at some future time.

Grief is most often associated with profound loss. A loved one dies and the pain of separation is unbearable, but death is not the only source of grief.

Betrayal can batter the human spirit with as relentless a storm of sorrow as can the loss encountered through death. To discover that someone you trusted--with your money, with your mind, with your heart--can be a most devastating experience. The sense of loss it stirs deep within can wrench the soul.

Disappointment can reduce the human spirit from profound hope to unimaginable devastation. A relationship in which one trusted transitions from perfect rest to absolute emptiness.

And life's list of heartaches that bring a sense of loss and grief can go on without limit, for there is no endeavor in life that is without its risk.

Yet, through it all, if we anchor our hope for a better tomorrow to the ONE who gave HIMSELF for us, we will overcome our grief.

The grief of death is overcome by CHRIST'S promise of eternal life.

The grief of betrayal is overcome by JESUS' promise to "never fail or forsake us."

The grief of disappointment is overcome by GOD'S assurance that "HE CAN DO EXCEEDING, ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL WE CAN ASK OR THINK, ACCORDING TO HIS POWER AT WORK WITHIN US."

Can we trust HIM to fulfill HIS word of hope at our point of grief?

YES! We can.
