That Season

That Season

It is that season of the year when appearances would tell us that Jesus Christ is the most important person in the world to everybody in the country. Stores are strewn with festive decorations, homes are decorated with Christmas trees and wreaths and manger scenes. Lamp posts in every city and town are adorned with holiday symbols.

But, many who are celebrating are merely awash in the tradition of the day rather than in the heart of the day. Many do not even know the One who is the HEART of CHRISTMAS.

This unfamiliarity with JESUS is evidenced by our removal of every semblance of HIM from our schools and from our workplace. Worse than that is our removal of HIM from our hearts. Because JESUS is no longer LORD in our hearts, we have allowed His removal from our institutions... and His absence is evidenced in manifold devastating ways.

When we loved Him, we loved others. The German commander who confronted the American commander at the Battle of the Buldge accosted him with words to the effect that if the fighting were to continue, civilians would be devastated--and this would go against the humanity for which Americans were noted. Are we noted for our humanity anymore?

If we are not, perhaps it is because today's young people are growing up without any investment into their lives of the ONE whose birth we profess to celebrate on Christmas--the ONE we celebrate but we do not know. The ONE we celebrate but we do not emulate.

Can our culture be transformed? Can we love our fellow man again? Can we live lives that reflect the life of Christ again? Perhaps we can--one heart at a time. Perhaps we can--one good deed at a time. Perhaps we can--one child at a time. Perhaps we can--one prayer for revival, for a THIRD GREAT AWAKENING at a time.

Let it start with me.
