Do you like surprises? Everyone enjoys pleasant surprises. Nobody likes the ones that are unpleasant. A husband who presents flowers for no reason at all on an ordinary evening will be lavished with appreciation. The one who forgets them on a milestone anniversary will be in the proverbial dog house.
We delight in those unexpected additions to our day that were not anticipated but by their very nature, made our day bright. The cloudiest weather can become the backdrop for the beaming smile of one who has been caught unaware by the kindness of a spouse or a friend.
Though these earthly moments of joy are relished and appreciated, they pale in comparison to the great surprise the Lord says He has waiting for those who love Jesus and embrace Him as Savior and Lord.
I Corinthians 2:9 says, “What no eye has seen and no ear has heard…is what God has prepared for those who love Him.” The surprise that greets us upon our arrival in Heaven will make all the sorrows and joys of life fade into forgetfulness.
