Be Still

It's not easy to 'be still.' Being still runs counter to the culture in which we live. We are a busy people.

We are about making money; we are about achieving goals; we are about transforming society; we are about changing the world...one cannot accomplish any of that without much activity.

How can we fulfill the important goals we have before us while accomplishing the transcendent goal of achieving peace within ourselves?

Apart from JESUS, we can't.

Apart from the LORD, we must forsake the attainment of tranquility to accomplish the purpose of our pursuit.

But with HIM, with HIM we will be able indeed to be still in the knowledge that HE is GOD and that through HIM we can accomplish everything HE sets before us to do while abiding in the peace HE promises we can have.

And the underlying reality of that assurance is the awareness that any goal HE has not ordained is not worthy of our pursuit. If we have heaped unrealistic goals to ourselves, we have failed to ascertain the origin of our assignment.

If we are striving for something HE does not want us to have, we are expending our effort in vain. Vain pursuits result in unfulfilled lives.

But if we are listening to HIS voice, if we are following HIS directives, if we are pursuing HIS goals for us, we will be certain that they shall be achieved in HIS way, in HIS time.

If we are listening, following and pursuing as JESUS directs us, we will abide in the promise that we can "do all things through CHRIST who gives us strength." Philippians 4:13
