Dachau

Dachau

The detainees at the Dachau concentration camp had already suffered cruelty beyond human comprehension. Then, gunshots rang out - the gates flew open. The prisoners faced off with a squad of Japanese soldiers.

Were these their new captors?

"We're American!" they exclaimed.

Dachau was liberated by the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

These Japanese-American soldiers had volunteered for service after enduring segregation and discrimination in the U.S.

They had family members held at internment camps back home, yet they were fighting for liberty in the army of the nation that didn't trust them because of the Pearl Harbor attack perpetrated by their former countrymen.

Doesn't this give each of us reason to reflect upon our own perception of our nation's faults!

Doesn't this give each of us reason to affirm as did these Japanese-American soldiers, that America,  the freedom that is at her heart, is worth fighting for!
