Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick is an NFL quarterback who has received wide acclaim through his brief career.

Kaepernick is the son of a black father who had no involvement in his life and a white mother who gave him up for adoption because of her inability to raise him alone. He was raised by white adoptive parents who wanted a little boy to round out their family.

Kaepernick was apparently well-loved and nurtured by his adoptive parents. He grew to be a strapping young man and a fine athlete throughout his pre-professional playing experience.

Like so many other people, Kaepernick has observed that things are not perfect in America, but he seems to miss the underlying reasons for the disparity he sees between the races.

Absentee fathers whose children are raised by single mothers, children whose family life is not nurturing and whose motivation to succeed is wanting, are the product of many black families.

Single mothers whose financial resources are limited because the responsibility of parenting their children alone prevents them from acquiring an education often don't inspire their children to succeed.

Communities where street gangs become the 'family' of lonely children produce children who are filled with disdain for life because their own lives are void of an investment of love.

And this syndrome is not unique to black children, but to children of any color who are raised without the support of their parents...it can become the outcome of even those children who are raised in two-parent homes where the mother and father are 'absent' because their involvement in work overshadows their investment of time with their children.

Perhaps rather than turn his back on his country, Kaepernick should invest some of the extraordinary resources that country has afforded to him to help the children who are victimized by the syndrome.
Perhaps he should speak out against faulty parenting, not only within the black community but among absentee parents in general.

Perhaps he should devote himself to the CHRIST he credits with redeeming him and assure that every lost, lonely child who looks up to him can see the love JESUS has for them through his caring, through his help, through his investment of not only money but time into their lives.
