THE GOSPEL
Jesus said that the world would hate the people who follow Him. Why? Essentially because HE is, "the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE," and no one can reach the Father but through HIM. John 14:6
People don't want to reach truth through Jesus. People want their own truth. Although there are as many reasons for rejecting truth as there are people who reject it, there are some basic categories of those who dismiss the veracity of Christ and His immutable word.
One category is those 'believers' who want to be under the umbrella of
Christianity for various reasons--their families have always been
Christian, their friends are professors of Christ, they subscribe to the
moral teachings of the Church.
Yet, these individuals do not wish to be under the entirety of the law of God; they prefer the 'smorgasbord' approach where they can select from the offerings of the faith as it suits their lifestyle choices.
A second category is those who reject the Gospel of Christ altogether. They are perhaps atheists or espousers of a false religion whose doctrine is the antithesis to the LORD's immutable TRUTH. They are those who have chosen war over peace, fierceness over kindness, hatred over love, death over life.
To all these, TRUTH is a great offense. To all these, the believer in CHRIST is therefore a great offense for CHRIST IS ULTIMATE TRUTH.
We live in an age where men have 'itching ears,' II Timothy 4:3, where pseudo believers desire that they be indulged in whatever their own basest impulses dictate, in an age when pseudo believers have "exchanged the truth of God for a lie," Romans 1:25, in an age where hordes of men "like locusts" trample and devour espousers of truth. Jeremiah 51:14
Yet, ultimately, TRUTH will prevail, for JESUS will put all things under His feet and "every knee shall bow to HIM"--those in Heaven and those in hell. Philippians 2:!0-11
