The King

Elvis Presley was called the King of Rock and Roll. He burst into the music world in the late 1950s and he transformed the youth of America. He brought a freedom and a license to the country that may have been seething under a surface of propriety until his new style brought the latent passions of youth into the forefront of the culture.

The handsome young crooner may not have been responsible for the sexual revolution and the wanton abandonment of traditional morality that occurred in the wake of his success, but he certainly contributed to it.

The irony of his life is typical of the lives of so many who are idolized by the masses in that his personal life was a shambles. His one failed marriage seemed to leave him devastated emotionally. His one child grew up without the cocoon of her father's love around her.

He delved into the drug culture with a destructive frenzy that drove him to an early grave. In his death, fans continue to revere him and his home has become a virtual shrine to his fame and the impact he had upon millions of people around the world. Visits there have accrued more wealth to his beneficiaries than all the money he made through his career.

The King...yet he lies in a cold grave.

The world heaped accolades upon him in life but no amount of adulation could spare him from the consequences of his lifestyle choices.

Contrast this with the ONE who came to a humble stable and was placed in a manger in the little town of Bethlehem over 2000 years ago. No famous crooner sang lullabies to Him, but angels did!
No palatial home welcomed His arrival but a humble stable did.

No throngs of adoring fans cheered His arrival as the Messiah of the Jews and the Savior of the world, but wise men did.

Death came to each of them at an early age, but one lies in a cold resting place while the other has arisen to great glory.

Which KING receives your enthusiasm? Which KING receives your praise? Which KING inspires your adulation? Which KING will you follow?

The one to a bitter, cold grave where sins are accounted for eternally?

Or the ONE to the portals of Heaven where you will reign with Him forever? II Timothy 2:12
